The Baboon 3 is the latest iteration of one of our most successful boards. With some minor tweaks to the tail this board is effectively the same as the original Baboon that Louie (formerly of Cre8tion Surfboards) shaped for me.
The 'Baboon' is a big guy fish specifically designed for someone that needs more volume. The original board was a custom, shaped to make short boarding accessible for a heavy surfer. Scott started to use the board - which belonged to a friend, as an alternative to a longboard in tiny waves. He loved it. The board quickly got noticed and was an instant hit.
The 'Baboon' is all things to all men. An excellent longboard alternative to heavier surfers, that want to be able to catch and ride tiny waves - but have the manoeuvrability and fun of a shortboard. This is also a perfect option for a beginner surfer looking to transition onto something more manoeuvrable, but still user friendly.
The Baboon is easy to paddle, catching the tiniest of ripples and maintaining speed when up and riding. With generous volume, low rocker and full rails, everything about the Baboon delivers easy and fast paddling, which in turn gets you up and riding tiny waves early. The relative length to volume, fish template and pulled in swallow tail, still allow for surprising manoeuvrability. After several iterations, Cre8tion have refined the Baboon, giving slightly more performance without sacrificing key attributes.
If you're a bit older and not quite as fit as you'd like to be, or a heavier surfer, but still consider yourself a competent shortboarder, then this is a great grovel option. This board will also be very popular amongst heavier first time shortboarders, who are keen to have a manoeuvrable surfboard in their quiver, but need a little more volume and ease of paddle at this stage of their surfing. If you are carrying an injury, but still want some performance this board would also suit you.
Due to the high volume and over sized dimensions of this board, we recommend that you use Goliath XXL keel fins with this model.
All Atlas surfboards are designed and manufactured in the UK, made with Burford blanks and Hexcell glass.
